exergetic optimization of designing parameters for heat recovery steam generators through direct search method
Authors
abstract
in this paper, first a sensitivity analysis of parameters affecting the performance of the steam generator is performed. this process includes the pinch temperature difference and the gas velocity (width of the hrsg) as the operating parameter and geometrical parameters (fin’s thickness, fin’s height, number of fins in each inch, tube transverse pitch) for each pressure parts is carried out, and then these parameters have been optimized. geometry details of the fins were considered separately for each pressure part of the steam generator (economizer, evaporator and superheater). the considered objective function is the rate of irreversibility in the steam generator which constitutes exergy destruction rate and exergy loss rate. after the optimization of total irreversibility rate, thermal and exergetic efficiencies and components of irreversibility, including exergy destruction for each part and exergy loss are calculated and compared with the situation prior to optimization.

Multi-objective optimization of heat recovery steam generators
In this paper, a multi-objective method is used to optimize a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). Two objective functions have been used in the optimization, which are irreversibility and HRSG equivalent volume. The former expresses the exergetic efficiency and the latter demonstrates the cost of the HRSG. Decision variables are geometric and operational parameters of the HRSG. The result...

full textReliability and durability from large heat recovery steam generators
Experience with heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) designed for larger-heat-input and higher-steam conditions highlights limitations in some features of traditional designs extrapolated from smaller HRSGs that operated predominantly continuously. Many combined-cycle units may be subjected to periods of regular overnight shut-down much earlier than expected and, unless anticipated during the...

Design of experiments (DOE) offers a great deal of benefits to any manufacturing organization, such as characterization of variables and sets the path for the optimization of the levels of these variables (settings) trough the Response surface methodology, leading to process capability improvement, efficiency increase, cost reduction. Unfortunately, the use of these methodologies is very limite...
